Ivan may weaken soon
This picture represents the current surface temperature of the Gulf.
(The black circles represent the current position of Ivan)
Basically as long as it stays in the red or orange colors it will strengthen. If it goes northwest it will strengthen more. If it goes north it will strengthen momentarily then weaken but it will move a lot faster so it may not matter. Either way, this will probably be one of the top 5 hurricanes to hit the US in recorded history.
