Hormel Foods first produced SPAM luncheon meat in 1937 in Austin, Minn. One of the first moderately priced, convenient and great-tasting food products on the market, SPAM became America's favorite luncheon meat almost immediately. By 1994 Hormel had sold 5 BILLION cans of Spam.

Today the beloved potted meat has its' own museum.


In September 2001, the 16,500 square foot SPAM Museum opened in Austin, Minn celebrating the image, history and long-standing tradition of the world's favorite luncheon meat.


From May to December 2000, Minnesotans were given up to 25,000 more ways to love SPAM when the Minnesota State Lottery introduced a new $2 SPAM scratch-off lottery ticket.

Here's a great recipe......

Ingredients -   2 tablespoons vegetable oil divided -   2 eggs beaten -   1 SPAM® Hot & Spicy (12-ounce) can diced -   1/4 cup diced carrots -   1/4 cup chopped green onions -   1/4 cup sliced mushrooms -   1/4 cup frozen peas thawed -   1/4 cup chopped red bell pepper -   2 cups cooked rice -   3 tablespoons HOUSE OF TSANG® soy sauce

SPAM™ Fried Rice   Servings: 4 Prep Time: 30 minutes Cook Time: 30 minutes       Directions In large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon oil. Add eggs. Cook, stirring, to desired doneness. Remove from skillet. In same skillet, heat remaining 1 tablespoon oil. Cook SPAM®, carrots, green onions, peas and bell pepper 4 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Stir in rice and egg. Sprinkle with soy sauce. Heat thoroughly.     Nutrition (per serving)   405 Calories   22 Grams Fat   20 Grams Protein   174 Milligrams Cholesterol   31 Grams Carbohydrates   1,646 Milligrams Sodium
