In this image released by NASA (news - web sites) on Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, a sidelong glance at Saturn and its magnificent rings is shown as Cassini pierced Saturn's ring plane on Dec. 14, 2004. Saturn's tilt relative to the Sun throws dramatic shadows of the rings onto the planet's northern hemisphere.
