What a shitty Christmas present this was.
On December 22nd, 1973 a federal speed limit of 55mph was imposed across the United States. The new limit was intended to increase safety and fuel economy, and studies show that it succeeded. It also made speed-happy drivers cranky, and led to widespread speeding.
