(SPACE.com) -- The innovative carrier plane used to air launch SpaceShipOne has a new mission. At the Mojave, California inland spaceport, the White Knight mothership has been involved in fit and high-speed taxi checks with a new passenger -- the X-37, an unpiloted, reusable space plane.
The White Knight/X-37 combination has undergone a set of recent ground evaluations, including high-speed taxi testing this week.
Designed by Scaled Composites of Mojave, California, the White Knight was utilized to haul SpaceShipOne to altitude and then released the piloted rocketplane for its record-setting suborbital treks, including the snagging of the high-stakes $10 million Ansari X Prize last year.

Anti-impotence drug Viagra increases the risk of blindness, doctors believe
Researchers at the University of Minnesota Medical School in the US identified seven men who developed vision problems after taking Viagra. The team, writing in the Journal of Neuro-ophthalmology,said it brought the total number of reported cases to 14.
But Pfizer, the makers of the drug which has been used by more than 20m men since its launch in 1998, said the cases were a coincidence. The seven men, aged between 50 and 69 years old, had all suffered from a swelling of the optic nerve within 36 hours of taking Viagra for erectile dysfunction.

Just ask Todd Marinovich. The former NFL quarterback has been arrested after being found in a public bathroom with apparent drug paraphernalia. Marinovich, who has acknowledged that drug addiction derailed his once-promising football career, was being held in an Orange County jail for investigation of violating his probation pending on a drug court hearing scheduled for next week.
A police officer found Marinovich in the bathroom May 20 with a bent spoon and syringe. The former quarterback fled on a bicycle but was arrested 15 blocks away, police said. On the police report, he listed his occupation as "unemployed artist."

Now, any kid with half a brain knew that X-Ray Specs were a novelty gag that didn't really work. But time marches on and technology makes the impossible possible. Stand by, air travelers, because the Homeland Security Department is preparing to install and test high-tech machines at airport checkpoints that will, as the comic-book ads promised, "See Thru Clothing!"

On May 27th, 1850 the Mormon Temple in Nauvoo IL is destroyed by a tornado.
The Nauvoo Temple was the second temple to be completed by members of the Latter Day Saint or Mormon movement. The first temple was completed in Kirtland, Ohio.
After the temple was vandalized by residents from neighboring Carthage and later burned, Brigham Young led the Mormons from Nauvoo to Salt Lake City. Years later, the temple was struck by a tornado and the City Council eventually ordered the demolition of the remaining walls in the interests of public safety.
In 2002, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints built a new temple on the site of the original. The exterior is a replica of the first temple, but the interior is laid out like a modern Latter-day Saint temple.

A giant dominatrix teddy bear wearing a leather mask and brandishing hand-cuffs has been banned from sober Zurich's street display of man-sized model bears, the project's artistic director said Tuesday. While tourists pose for snaps next to a brightly-painted and benign array of models such as the 'schoolteacher bear' and the 'skier bear,' 'Baervers' -- a pun on the German for perverse -- has been deemed too steamy for the financial capital's streets. The bear appears here in a yard in Zurich, May 24, 2005. (Sebastian Derungs/Reuters)

How much does 29-stone weigh???
A 29-stone New York woman says she was humiliated when she was told to go to a zoo for an x-ray.
Jennifer Walters is bed-ridden and cannot fit into a magnetic resonance imaging machine.
She told the New York Post that a doctor said she should go instead to the Bronx Zoo for an x-ray.
"It's humiliating. I was told if elephants and hippos need MRIs, they have the equipment at the Bronx Zoo. It was like I was an animal," she said.
New York politicians recently called for an end to what they termed medical discrimination against obese people.
The Bronx Zoo told the Post it gets about a dozen such calls a year but it doesn't have such facilities for its animals.

A software flaw in Cisco voice over IP phones could allow hackers to crash them. The problem has been reported by the UK’s National Infrastructure Security Co-ordination Centre (NISCC) and Cisco is issuing patches to solve the problem.
A DNS (domain name system) protocol vulnerability affects the client software in the phones. DNS handles the translation of domain names into IP addresses via DNS servers across the internet to perform the translation.
The system is designed to ensure that IP packets arrive at their proper destinations at the right time.
However, the information necessary to perform the process is often compressed, and the NISCC said remote hackers could insert specially crafted DNS packets containing invalid information into the compressed section of the message, causing the IP phones to malfunction or crash.
Affected products include Cisco's 7902/7905/7912 IP phones, the Cisco ATA (analogue telephone adaptor) 186/188, and several Cisco Unity Express and Cisco ACNS (application and content networking system) devices.
Cisco is not the only supplier to use the DNS translation system in its IP phones.
NISCC policy is to post information on known vulnerabilities affecting specific suppliers. It adds other suppliers to the listing once it is confirmed their kit is affected too.

Summary - (May 24, 2005) NASA's Voyager 1 spacecraft has traveled so far in our Solar System that it's reached the heliosheath. This is an area just past the termination shock region, where the solar wind crashes into the thin interstellar gas of the galaxy. It was difficult to detect exactly when Voyager 1 passed through the termination shock and into the heliosheath, because we have no data about interstellar space yet, just calculations.
