Here's one to ponder on Halloween. A new survey said more people in Britain believe in ghosts than believe in God.

A poll of more than 2,000 people said 68 percent believe in ghosts and spirits, while 55 percent said they believe in the existence of God.

Of the ghost believers, 12 percent claim to have seen an apparition. Seventy-six percent say reality television shows and films about the supernatural are part of the reason they're convinced ghosts are real.

A pastor performing a baptism was electrocuted inside his church Sunday morning after adjusting a nearby microphone while standing in water, a church employee said.

The Rev. Kyle Lake, 33, was stepping into the baptistery as he reached out for the microphone, which produced an electric shock, said University Baptist Church community pastor Ben Dudley.

Water in a baptistery usually reaches above the waist, said Byron Weathersbee, interim university chaplain at Baylor University.

Lake was pronounced dead at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, nursing supervisor Pat Mahl said. The woman being baptized apparently had not stepped into the water and was not seriously injured.

FREDERICA, Del. - The apparent suicide of a woman found hanging from a tree went unreported for hours because passers-by thought the body was a Halloween decoration, authorities said.

The 42-year-old woman used rope to hang herself across the street from some homes on a moderately busy road late Tuesday or early Wednesday, state police said.

The body, suspended about 15 feet above the ground, could be easily seen from passing vehicles.

State police spokesman Cpl. Jeff Oldham and neighbors said people noticed the body at breakfast time Wednesday but dismissed it as a holiday prank. Authorities were called to the scene more than three hours later.

"They thought it was a Halloween decoration," Fay Glanden, wife of Mayor William Glanden, told The (Wilmington) News Journal.

"It looked like something somebody would have rigged up," she said.

Download a free virtual machine here, I would recommend the Browser Appliance since it is actually pretty useful, and the smallest one there (200MB, Ubuntu Linux with Firefox)

Install the player, unzip the virtual machine somewhere you can use (c:\vm)

Try out the appliance, it's good for surfing to sites that are spyware-central and of dubious origin, since the virtual machine can be crushed and re-copied if things go pear shaped. It's also Linux so it shouldn't get whacked like your typical XP box, but the default install is lacking some plugins. Oh well, it's free...

Now, to make your own machines, you can copy the browser appliance files to a new directory, and edit away with notepad and some blank disk images.

For the second time in nearly 60,000 years, the Red Planet will swing unusually close to Earth this weekend.
Mars' latest rendezvous will not match its record-breaking approach to Earth in 2003, when it hovered from 35 million miles away. But more skygazers this time around can glimpse the fourth rock from the sun because it will glow above the horizon.
On Saturday, Mars' orbit will bring it 43.1 million miles away from Earth, with its closest pass scheduled for 11:25 p.m. EDT.
The two planets -- normally separated by about 140 million miles -- will not be this close again until 2018.

Some of my OLDER friends have commented that they have no idea what I mean when I use Internet abbreviations. I only use a few myself. So, these two priests walk into a bar ... No joke. A Roman Catholic parish has booked four talks at a local bar in an effort to reach out to 20- and 30-somethings who don't go to church. Alcohol will be served.

The Ste. Marie Parish's first presentation, "Naked & Without Shame," is scheduled for Thursday and will deal with Catholic views on sexuality, contraception and sex and marriage.

Other talks scheduled at the Strange Brew Tavern are entitled "Clothed With Love," "It Ain't Easy Being Catholic Today," and "Put Out Into the Deep."

"We're trying to reach out to people that don't go to church or maybe are lapsed Catholics," said Chris Paul," evangelist at Ste. Marie. "The idea is just to find a different atmosphere that will reach different people."

The parish borrowed the idea from the Theology on Tap campaign started nearly 25 years ago in the Archdiocese of Chicago.

Hershey makes Milk Duds -- spelled D-U-D-S -- the chocolate covered caramel.

But there's a California company that sells clothing for nursing mothers under the name of Milkdudz -- spelled as one word and ending in D-U-D-Z.

The Patriot-News newspaper said Hershey's has complained to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

A co-founder of the clothing company said they're confident they'll win as long as they don't have to spend a bundle on endless appeals. Kiersten Wall said it's not like their products will be next to Hershey's in the candy aisle.

LOS ANGELES - George Takei, who as helmsman Sulu steered the Starship Enterprise through three television seasons and six movies, has come out as a homosexual in the current issue of Frontiers, a biweekly Los Angeles magazine covering the gay and lesbian community.

Takei told The Associated Press on Thursday that his new onstage role as psychologist Martin Dysart in "Equus," helped inspire him to publicly discuss his sexuality.

Takei described the character as a "very contained but turbulently frustrated man." The play opened Wednesday at the David Henry Hwang Theater in Los Angeles, the same day that Frontiers magazine featured a story on Takei's coming out.

The current social and political climate also motivated Takei's disclosure, he said.

"The world has changed from when I was a young teen feeling ashamed for being gay," he said. "The issue of gay marriage is now a political issue. That would have been unthinkable when I was young."

The 68-year-old actor said he and his partner, Brad Altman, have been together for 18 years.

Set Clocks Back an Hour This Sunday

WASHINGTON - Fall is in the air, the leaves are changing and that means it's time to set the clocks back. It's fall, so remember to fall back one hour.

The change from daylight to standard time occurs at 2 a.m. Sunday for most of the country. Most folks will set their clocks back before going to bed on Saturday night, giving themselves an extra hour of sleep.

Some will forget, of course, and arrive at work, church or other activities an hour early.

Daylight-saving time returns April 2.

The change does not affect Arizona, Hawaii or the portions of Indiana in the Eastern time zone, which do not observe daylight time. Congress has voted to change the dates for daylight-saving time, but that doesn't take effect until 2007.
