Can you imagine an 8.0 in the Midwest!!!

Everyone is jumping on the natural disaster bandwagon right now. But I don't think many people in the Chicago area know that the New Madrid Fault even exists. And if they do - I can probably guarantee that they don't care.
I suspect that my house would crumble like a house of cards if the "big one" hits. Hell, I'm worried about how my house will hold up if a tornado, like the one that destroyed Plainfield in 1990, hits our area....

I remember a 5.5 in '86 when I was living in Indiana. We were out on the deck. My father thought I was shaking the table, but I remember seeing the whole house shaking 3-2 feet.
I remember when some guy predicted a huge earthquake there about 10 years ago. Everybody started buying earthquake insurance so I asked my insurance guy about it. He told me not to bother because if there was a quake that damaged the Chicago area they would immediately claim bankruptcy.
