More and more people are buying and loving Macs. To make this choice simply irresistible, Apple will include technology in the next major release of Mac OS X, Leopard, that lets you install and run the Windows XP operating system on your Mac. Called Boot Camp (for now), you can download a public beta today.
As elegant as it gets
Boot Camp lets you install Windows XP without moving your Mac data, though you will need to bring your own copy to the table, as Apple Computer does not sell or support Microsoft Windows.(1) Boot Camp will burn a CD of all the required drivers for Windows so you don't have to scrounge around the Internet looking for them.
Optional alt. At startup, hold down the option key (alt) to choose between Mac OS X and Windows.
Run XP natively
Once you’ve completed Boot Camp, simply hold down the option key at startup to choose between Mac OS X and Windows. (That’s the “alt” key for you longtime Windows users.) After starting up, your Mac runs Windows completely natively. Simply restart to come back to Mac.

Toshiba is now selling the first HD DVD video format players, beating the rival Sony Blu-ray disc format to the market. The new Toshiba HD DVD player is model HD-XA1, priced at about $799 for the United States in April.
The HD DVD format is backed by NEC Corporation of Japan which competes against Sony's Blu-ray disc format, supported by Matsushita Electric Industrial Company, which makes the Panasonic brand products.

SAN JOSE, Calif. - As expected, hackers have found a way to run Microsoft Corp.'s Windows XP operating system on new Macintosh computers, winning an ad hoc contest and a $13,854 cash prize to boot.
Or, make that dual-boot — the way to make a computer switch between two operating systems.
Some users of Apple Computer Inc.'s Macs have clamored for such a solution since Apple said it would be switching its computers to Intel Corp.'s chips, putting the feat within reach.
Their reasons vary, but a common denominator is that they would like to run Windows-based programs on their Macs.

Everyone knows the barcodes and the more recent chips replacing them, used for product identification in shops and other similar cases. But what people didn't know till now was the fact that there's a possibility that those little tagging gadgets are also vulnerable to viruses which may affect both machine and man.
To demonstrate that such a scenario is a possible one, a group of three researchers at the Amsterdam's Free University have designed their own RFID reader, giving it a common type of bug called an SQL injection vulnerability. Then they created the malware needed to exploit that specific vulnerability, showing that it would spread automatically as described.
According to the study conducted by Melanie Rieback, Bruno Crispo and Andrew Tanenbaum, despite the extremely low memory capacity available on such chips, an infected RFID tag read wirelessly by a scanner is strong enough to mess up the database that processes contained information.

It took a hacker less than 30 minutes to gain root-level access to Mac OS X, according to a report from ZDNet. The hacker who penetrated the system called the Mac "easy pickings."
The security breach took place on February 22 after a Swedish devotee of the Mac set up a Mac Mini as a server and invited all takers to try to compromise the system's security to gain root-level control. Once a hacker has gained root access to a computer system, the attacker can install applications, delete files and folders, and use the computer for any nefarious purpose.
The competition was over in a matter of hours after a hacker, who asked to be identified only as "Gwerdna," gained access to the server in question and defaced the Web site with a message that read, "This sucks. Six hours later this poor little Mac was owned and this page got defaced."
Gwerdna told ZDNet that it took him a mere 30 minutes or less to gain root control of the Mac. "It probably took about 20 or 30 minutes to get root on the box," Gwerdna said. "Initially, I tried looking around the box for certain misconfigurations and other obvious things but then I decided to use some unpublished exploits -- of which there are a lot for the Mac OS X."

Have you looked into RFID, (Radio Frequency IDentification) yet?
It's the thing that's going to replace bar codes. Wal-Mart is the company that really gave RFID a kick start by requiring that all of their suppliers have their products equipped with RFID tags or else Wal-Mart would find other suppliers.
There is quite an uproar by the privacy invasion types that too much personal info can be stored in these chips and read from them without the you knowming.
Some companies and schools have started implanting the chips under people's skin to track them or allow them access to protected areas.
My friend Jay read a book when we were in high school that said that this was how the devil was going to take over the world.
The new Wynn Casino in Vegas has RFID technology in all of their casino chips to deter counterfeiting, card-counting and other bad behavior.
I stumbled across this book today which looks pretty cool. It has 10 do it yourself RFID projects in it.
I think I'm going to get the book, build a chip, and implant it in my forhead and take over the world.

A recently announced mini tables PC dubbed Origami has been rumored to be in the process of development by Microsoft and other manufacturers not mentioned at this time. It’s still unknown as to what it can do but there are rumors that it will include GPS, USB capabilities as well as remote accessing any computer with Windows Media Center.
What is called the Origami Project by Microsoft, the mini tablet PC is said to be able to use remote access to accomplish basic tasks that a user would on a PC like listen to music, instant message and other day-to-day tasks.
Not a lot is said about the project itself, and by some like Sam Bhavnani, an analyst for Current Analysis, the Origami is said to not even exist. Even though Microsoft announced that they are working on a handheld device under the name 'Origami Project' it is not clear as to what it is. Some believe that this new handheld is to be a portable multimedia center, something like the PSP from Sony. In my understanding it is quite possible since the Xbox 360 and the PS3 are in such a battle, Microsoft is trying to enter the handheld market to beat out the PSP.
"Think about it for a second, how many time have you had to patch your PSP for viruses and attacks?... Exactly!"

Sony is running into some problems with the sale of portable movies on the Universal Media Disc (UMD) format for the PlayStation Portable (PSP). Movie companies are pulling many of their future releases for a variety of reasons including:
Many movies do not sell well for the portable device; comedy does fairly well, but the audience isn’t very wide or deep.
People can’t play the PSP version of the movie on their TV and don’t like purchasing the same movie more than once, one time to watch at home and again to watch on the PSP.
With new high-definition versions of movies scheduled to hit store shelves later this year, retailers will require room to stock and sell these new formats. As such, something has to give, and that would be the poorly performing UMDs.

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - Apple Computer Inc. on Tuesday cut the price of its cheapest digital music player, the iPod Shuffle, and launched a smaller-capacity version of its mid-priced iPod Nano.
The move by Apple, which has 70 percent of the U.S. digital music player market, is aimed at further consolidating a market that it leads, Apple executives said. The company also said it has now sold 12 million videos on its iTunes online store.
"By making it even more affordable, we want to continue to grow and enlarge the market," said Greg Joswiak, head of iPod product marketing, in a telephone interview.
Cupertino, California,-based Apple said the 512-megabyte Shuffle will now sell for $69, down from $99 previously. The 1-gigabyte model will sell for $99, down from $129.
The 512-megabyte version holds about 120 songs.
The new 1-gigabyte Nano, the sleek iPod model that won rave reviews from critics and consumers when it was introduced last September, was priced at $149.
